Two Lullabies

1. Siblings’ Song

Magic entered his heart as the world

awakened in Autumn, his laughter an

x-ray of life in miniature, blooming as Spring drew near

when suddenly

His sister appeared

all arms and screams and the language of laughter’s madness

illuminating his life’s limbs and laundry, the people around them licking up the noise

love knows no boundary accept loss or

extra-terrestrial brilliance come down in a field upon life when brother and sister share a common thought

and a raging heart

yelling joy into the world with trumpet fanfare, protecting each other’s dimples from the wimpy shadows of the garage

or the world's mistakes in the dark.

2. Parents’ Song

Prancing children limbo over lavender fields, Xanadu

under a song-sun Saturday where

mint-eyed, jade-wing dream worlds may come true

  but

Just in case you stumble far from view, or

if you wander from our love, voices up from the rooftops or valleys anew

nightly sing and bring us both home to you.

for my nephew and niece, Max and Hailey Oh and their parents Pum Chang and Jin Oh.
